Microneedling treatments are designed for patients seeking a minimally invasive skin rejuvenation procedure that helps minimize the signs of aging, improve the appearance of acne scars, and rejuvenate aging skin.

Also referred to as Collagen Induction Therapy, microneedling is a technique that causes an increase in collagen production by creating micro-injuries on the skin’s surface. The procedure uses a specially designed device to create tiny holes in the skin’s surface, followed by the application of a topical product directly onto the surface for a deeper level of absorption and penetration into the skin. Learn more about microneedling and how it works here.

Microneedling can safely treat all skin types and addresses a variety of concerns. It works by opening up the skin, which allows products to be absorbed at a deeper level. The result is enhanced rejuvenation and better removal of acne scars, sunspots, melasma, wrinkles, and stretch marks. Microneedling can also be used to improve skin tone and texture by treating the appearance of scars, stretch marks, wrinkles, and pigmentation marks.

At Advanced Dermatology & Skin Surgery, we’ll help you determine the best skin care and treatment plan, and whether microneedling is the ideal treatment based on your areas of concern.

What Should I Expect During Microneedling Treatment?

  • During your microneedling session, a topical numbing cream is applied to the treatment area to help reduce discomfort. The treatment can take anywhere from 30-45 minutes depending on the body surfaces treated, and products may be applied post-treatment to increase absorption into the skin  for even better results.
  • After your treatment, you’ll receive post-care instructions and should be able to resume most of your normal activities the next day.

What Areas Can Be Treated With Microneedling?

  • The best and most common areas for treatment include:
    • Face
    • Neck
    • Arms
    • Décolleté (Low neckline)
    • Abdomen

Is There Any Downtime With Microneedling?

  • Recovery time is minimal, but it is best to allow yourself time to heal. You should be able to resume normal activities the next day, but it may look like you have a sunburn. Occasionally, microneedling does cause some temporary bruising.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

  • A series of 3-6 treatments is typically recommended, depending on your areas of correction or concern, spaced in 4-week intervals. If you have deep wrinkles, advanced sun damage, stretch marks, or any type of scars, however, you may need 6 or more treatments to achieve the desired effect. In order to maintain your results, we recommend yearly rejuvenation treatments.
